MarineWind Alliance to seek UK Offshore wind energy rights
A consortium of world leaders in wind power, maritime operations and renewable energy investments has announced that it has submitted a joint bid aimed at winning exclusive rights from the Crown Estate to develop offshore wind farms in UK waters.
The MarineWind Alliance, comprising Acciona Energy, Good Energies, OceanWind, and Power@Sea, provides the integrated supply chain and deep-water expertise needed for safe and proficient delivery of offshore wind energy projects.
Under the third licensing round for offshore wind energy in the UK (Round 3), the Crown Estate targets the installation of 25,000 MW within nine designated zones by 2020, requiring £80 billion in investments.
“The scale and ambition of Round 3 poses significant supply chain, financial, consenting and other challenges, “ said Ian Taylor (Director-Good Energies (UK) LLP). “MarineWind Alliance has been formed to address these challenges, drawing on the combined track records and supply chain capabilities of the consortium members and their affiliated and partner companies.”
These include international renewable energy investment companies, dedicated offshore wind farm developers, a wind turbine manufacturer, offshore wind farm foundation engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) providers, an offshore wind farm electrical infrastructure engineering company, and marine contractors.
Consortium members and affiliates are involved with offshore wind farm developments in the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, Spain, France and Belgium
An announcement from the Crown Estate is expected towards the end of 2009.
