Scatec Solar, the global developer and turn-key supplier of solar PV (photo voltaic) solutions, has been selected as a preferred bidder for a 75 MW project during the first round of the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Program. A PV plant of this size will be amongst the largest to date in Africa. Construction will commence by July 2012 and the plant will be in commercial operation by August 2013.

An innovative DP foundation installation vessel has been developed for the offshore wind industry. NorWind Installer contracted the ULSTEIN Dutch design offices Ulstein Sea of Solutions and Ulstein IDEA Equipment Solutions as their design partners for a new foundation installation vessel for the offshore wind industry. The vessel is a customized version of the Deepwater Enabler design from ULSTEIN.

Mr. Raymond Carlsen has been named new CEO of Scatec Solar

Effective October 2009, Mr. Raymond Carlsen, has been named new Chief Executive Officer of Scatec Solar AS, the solar utility company focusing on global installation, and operations of solar power plants.

Scatec Solar has headquarters in Oslo, Norway. Raymond joins Scatec Solar from Aker ASA where he was Partner and responsible for developing the company’s portfolio of Energy related businesses.

Former CEO of Scatec Solar, Mr. Ravi Khanna, was named Director Corporate Affairs for Scatec and will work across the company’s solar portfolio to further strengthen Scatec’s position in the industry.

- Raymond’s substantial industrial back ground, spanning all aspects of running the business from giving it the strategic direction through business planning, project execution to operational team building makes him the ideal candidate to take Scatec Solar into its next phase on it’s way to become a significant player within the solar PV power utility segment of the industry, said Dr. Alf Bjørseth founder and chairman of Scatec AS, the parent company of Scatec Solar.

Raymond Carlsen has held various top management positions within the Aker Group and former Kvaerner ASA since he joined the enterprise in 1989 as managing director for Kvaerner Process Systems. Prior to becoming a partner of Aker ASA, he was Executive Vice President and member of the Aker Solutions ASA Executive Management Team as well as responsible for Aker Solutions Subsea business with operations in more than 15 countries and more than USD 2 billion in revenue.

Under the management of Mr. Ravi Khanna, Scatec Solar has during the last 12 months through acquisitions and start-ups established itself with subsidiaries in Germany, The Czech Republic, India, Asia Pacific and North America. The company has used these challenging months for the solar energy industry to position itself for growth in these key markets.
Mr. Khanna has now been asked by founder Mr. Bjørseth, to focus his skills, efforts and extensive network within the solar industry to the benefit of all solar related projects Scatec is involved in.
