Scatec Solar closes a number of projects – well positioned to meet target of 40 MW installed in 2010
Scatec Solar, the global turn-key supplier of solar PV (photo voltaic) solutions, is ending a year characterized by consolidation of both a German and a Czech subsidiary and the entry into new markets, by completing a total of 13.5 MW of solar PV parks. The company now targets 40 MW to be installed in 2010.
The acquisition of the remaining 50 % of the equity interest in the German Solar PV company Solarcompetence GmbH and indirectly the EPCI company , K&S Solarsysteme, has proved instrumental in Scatec Solar’s ability to leverage on their European PV experience. Germany, still being the world’s leading PV market, remains as the key market also for Scatec Solar. At the end of the year the company is completing the second part of its Pfeffenhausen project, increasing the park to a total capacity of 5.56 MW. Before year end the company will also see the completion of its Krumbach phase 1 and 2, a project exceeding 5 MW capacity.
- I am very pleased to see how our organization has been able to tackle the challenging PV market in 2009, said Raymond Carlsen, CEO of Scatec Solar since October this year. - Our colleagues have provided a healthy number of new PV parks, but more importantly, been able to position Scatec Solar for substantial growth in 2010 and onwards. We have in place a highly experienced team, with an execution oriented approach, which will enable Scatec Solar to become a leading provider of commercial PV solutions for the European and other selected markets, said Mr. Carlsen.
During 2009, Scatec Solar has made its entry into the PV markets in the Czech Republic and Italy. In the Czech Republic, the first 2.1 MW phase of the Hrusovany project will be grid connected in December, and will be completed in the first quarter of 2010 by the installation of another 1 MW. In Italy, Scatec Solar finished a solar PV park earlier this fall under the excellent solar irradiation conditions found in Sardinia. The 1 MW PV plant is a ground based installation on a 2.4 hectares property which is rear in Sardinia, as farm land is not available for solar PV purposes.
- Going forward, our goal of 40 MW will be reached through a further development of our business in existing markets, said Mr. Raymond Carlsen. - However, we also see France as an interesting new development, where we will target roof installations where incentives are favorable. In addition we will continue to position ourselves for coming growth in the US market, where we completed our first project this year, said Mr. Carlsen.
Scatec Solar is engaging in rural electrification in emerging markets, emphasized by the inauguration in January of two Community Solar Power Plants (CSPPs) in two villages in Uttar Pradesh, India, providing renewable electricity to a total of 150 households as well as to local micro-industry. Supported by the Indian and Norwegian governments, the electrification of another 30 villages is under way and will be completed in the first quarter 2010.
