NorSun produces high quality monocrystalline silicon ingots and wafers, serving the high-efficiency (super-mono) solar energy segment.

As of the end of 2010, the company had a production capacity of about 250 MW and 240 employees. The production facility is located in Aardal, Norway. Main customers are companies which depend on the highest quality monocrystalline wafers. The company has experienced a strong growth over the past years and is basically sold out on long-term contracts for the next years.

Norsun has been successful in developing new technology with substantial cost reduction impact both for ingot growing and wafer sawing. Specifically, Norsun has developed technology for additional charging of crucibles prior to ingot pulling as well as recharging of the crucible during pulling. Both technologies contribute to increasing the productivity of ingot pulling significantly.

Furthermore, Norsun has pioneered the development of fixed abrasive wafer sawing based on diamond wire. This increases the wafers sawing capacity significantly, at the same time as removing the need for silicon carbide slurry. Consequently, there is no need for investments in or operation of slurry recycling. With these innovations, NorSun is a leading player in the super-mono segment of the global solar market.

Norsun has concrete plans to use its technology platform to increase production capacity by building new plants, but no final decision has been made.
